Men's Water Polo

Gilani Saves 20 in Defeat at Oxy

EAGLE ROCK - Caltech men's water polo fell into a 4-1 hole in the first quarter and were unable to muster enough offense to make a comeback, losing at Occidental College, 17-5 on Wednesday evening.

The Beavers trailed 2-7 at halftime but rallied briefly in the second half to score three goals before giving up 10 more goals to the Tigers.  Sophomore Shaurya Gilani (Chicago, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) keyed the Beavers' defense with 20 saves. Sophomore Charles Ross (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) led the Beavers with three goals and senior Jordan Bonilla (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) added two more to round out all the scoring for Caltech. Seniors Chris Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Junipero Serra) and Tomas Tussie (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) each recorded assists along with freshman Bradley Justice (El Cajon, Calif. / Grossmont).

Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will next travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Nov. 12 to complete the first round of SCIAC regular season competition.
