Box Score ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2021) – Caltech men's water polo headed South on Saturday morning to face the Panthers of Chapman University for the SCIAC foes' first of two meetings in the 2021 season.
The Beavers conceded the opening sprint, opting to play defense first. The hosts quickly took advantage, firing shots early and often from all around Caltech's cage. All told, Chapman were held to just three goals in the opening frame, as the Beavers' trademark defense and often-spectacular goaltending kept the game close.
Junior Wei Foo (Hacienda Heights, Calif. / Troy) saved seven of the 10 shots he faced in the first quarter. In the third quarter, he saved both a penalty shot and a follow-up from the ensuing rebound, denying the Chapman shooter twice in a span of mere seconds. Foo also had a team-high two steals in the game.
Fellow junior Matthew Hajjar (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) highlighted on the Caltech scoresheet with four goals and one assist, followed by junior Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview), who scored twice and assisted once.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers' next game is on the road at the University of La Verne on Oct. 20.
