Hajjar Stands Out Again in Final Road Tilt

Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2021) – Caltech played its last road game of the regular season on Saturday at SCIAC rival Occidental College, giving the Tigers a spirited effort but falling short despite another standout performance by junior Matthew Hajjar (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School).

Despite some lucky bounces that seemed to favor the home Tigers in the first quarter, Head Coach Jon Bonafede was overall happy with the Beavers' effort, especially highlighting their defensive stand in the second half.

Once again, Hajjar scored early and often - netting the first two Caltech goals in a four-goal game - and added an assist and steal. He additionally drew three exclusions against Occidental, including one at the beginning of the fourth quarter, where he buried the Beavers' lone powerplay goal.

Also highlighting on offense were junior Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview) with two goals, two assists and a steal, as well as sophomore Perry Samimy (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades), with two goals, two assists and three steals.

Freshman Sean Zheng (San Marino, Calif. / Polytechnic School) netted one goal, assisted Hajjar's powerplay goal and added two steals. Junior Wei Foo (Hacienda Heights, Calif. / Troy) played all 32 minutes in goal and made 10 saves for a .400 save percentage along with two steals of his own.

The Beavers are excited to play at home for the rest of the season, with their next contest scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. against DIII national No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
