Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2021) – Caltech continued its 2021 SCIAC campaign on the road against national Division III No. 4 Whittier College, which departed the game still undefeated in conference play.
The Beavers had some early chances that just missed the cage, but freshman Sean Zheng (San Marino, Calif. / Polytechnic School) put his team on the board with just five seconds remaining in the first quarter. He then won the second quarter sprint and scored twice more in the fourth quarter to complete the hat trick. The Poets held a 7-1 edge after the first quarter and kept up the attacking pressure throughout the game, though the Beavers picked up their offense with six second-half goals.
Juniors Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview) and Matthew Hajjar (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) each netted a pair of goals for Caltech, with Hajjar burying a shot just two seconds after a Whittier exclusion. Sophomore Perry Samimy (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades) rounded out the scoresheet with a balanced effort, tallying one goal in the fourth quarter and three steals to hinder Whittier's offense.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers face No. 6 University of Redlands at home on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
