Matt Brisotti Joins Caltech as Men's Tennis Head Coach

PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2022) – Caltech Men's Tennis officially has a new head coach today, as Betsy Mitchell, Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation announced the hiring of Matt Brisotti.

A former team captain, conference champion, and MVP as a player, Brisotti's tennis experience spans the mainland from California to New York, ranges from private lessons and club teams to NCAA Division I, and includes work in teaching, facility management, tennis operations, and of course coaching successful intercollegiate programs. He previously coached at College of St. Elizabeth (Morristown, N.J.), Drew University (Madison, N.J.), Hamilton College (Clinton, N.Y.), University of Mary Washington (Fredericksburg, Va.), and most recently he served as the Director of Tennis Operations at Arizona State University.

"We are so looking forward to welcoming Matt to our team," Mitchell said.  "He has a wealth of on-court tennis experience to share with our nationally ranked men's program that is on the rise.  More importantly he is a committed educator, prioritizing student development, health and safety which are among our core values. Matt's return to Division III head coaching combines all that we look for in a team member: sport expert, growth mindset, student-focused leader and great teammate in our department."

Brisotti earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Public Health from Drew University. During his time there he earned 1st team All-Conference Singles and Doubles honors while serving in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC). His educational journey continued through Concordia University at Irvine, where he received his Master of Coaching and Athletic Administration degree. He views effective communication, a positive environment, and mutual trust and support among teammates and coaches as central to his coaching philosophy. He believes when you can communicate on a high level, it allows for your team to function at a high level, and that taking risks can foster growth in individuals and teams.

"I'd like to thank Athletic Director Mitchell and the search committee for selecting me to be the next Head Men's Tennis Coach at Caltech," Brisotti said. "It is a very exciting time to be a part of the Caltech as their commitment to academics and athletics is unparalleled. I am honored to be taking over the program and to keep bringing it to new heights both on and off the court. I want to thank my friends and family for supporting me on this journey as I would not be here without them."
