Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. – Caltech Men's Tennis faced the University of Redlands Bulldogs in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Semifinal Thursday evening.
The Beavers wrested control from the Bulldogs early, evening up the doubles session after dropping the set in the third position by sophomores
Constantin Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne (Paris / Lycée Jean de La Fontaine) and
Tejas Ram (Allen, Texas / Allen) winning their set 6-4 in the second position. This left it up to sophomore
Eric He (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) and junior
Andrew Zabelo (Florham Park, N.J. / Newark Academy) to seal the deal, which they did by winning their tiebreak by a 7-2 score for a 7-6 win.
Some unexpected rain drenched the courts and required a lengthy delay after Redlands had reclaimed a 2-1 lead in the match. Ram in the fifth position and first-year
Kenneth Chan (Hinsdale, Ill. / Pine Crest) each split sets with their opponents, and He held off his opponent in the fourth position after the break to win his second set. With SCIAC postseason matches continuing until the deciding match point, Caltech's remaining singles matches remained unfinished.
Despite all the adversity the team faced, including extensive court damage from the wind storm that fueled the Eaton Fire in January, the Beavers managed winning records of 11-5 overall and 4-3 against SCIAC opponents in the regular season.
