PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Men's Basketball returned to the hardwood Thursday night to host the Bethesda University Flames, a NCCAA program from Anaheim, California.
The Beavers started off strongly with rookie
Noah Hicks splashing a three on Caltech's first possession of the game and another one just over a minute later. Senior center
Pavlos Stavrinides made an early impact with six points in the first three minutes, including a three-point play by drawing a foul on a layup.
Some strong performances highlighted the night despite some shooting frustration against a fast and aggressive opponent. Of note, Stavrinides dropped a team-leading 27 points on the visitors, including 20 from the field via 71.4% shooting. He also led the Beavers with 10 boards in an excellent team effort in the rebounds category.
"We beat them on the boards," Head Coach
Dr. Oliver Eslinger said. "We got good looks, we took great shots, it just frustrated us that they weren't going in."
Riley Wood followed Stavrinides with nine rebounds, and
Chase Pagon and
Kyle McGraw each collected eight. McGraw nailed a trio of three-pointers among his 12-point night. Hicks tallied nine points along with a team-high three assists.
The Beavers have a two-game road trip this weekend, beginning Saturday at 4 p.m. against Linfield.
