REDLANDS, Calif. – Caltech Women's Soccer faced off against its easternmost SCIAC rival in the Redlands Bulldogs Wednesday evening in a strongly defensive affair.
The teams remained deadlocked after the opening half, with six crucial saves by Beaver goalkeeper
Sophia Steven keeping the match deadlocked for the first hour. She ultimately turned away seven of the Bulldogs' shots on goal while defensive pressure by her teammates left the home side resorting to low-chance shots that missed the frame entirely.
Nova Wei-Navarro managed the team's lone shot on goal shortly after subbing in late in the first half, and Caltech threatened again a couple minutes later as
Kathryn Thompson's attempt went wide.
Ellie Yamada played the full 90 minutes as Caltech looked to her for offense; she led the team with three shots and nearly got the Beavers on the board with a shot in the 47th minute that rang off the crossbar.
Misha Yap came just as close five minutes later as her shot also carromed off the bar.
It was a calmly-contested match with no cards and only seven total fouls called between the two teams.
