Edwards' Double-Double Lifts Women's Basketball to Victory Over Sagehens

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Basketball returned to Braun Gym on Saturday afternoon and emerged victorious over the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.

After falling behind early in the first quarter, the Beavers rallied to tie the score at 11-11 by the first intermission, capped by seven points from senior Hope Arnett (Torrance, Calif. / Chadwick School).

Juniors Saumya Chauhan (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) and Kodie Vondra (Livingston, Mont. / Park) later combined for the first nine points of the second quarter, followed by a layup by senior Claire Perhach (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek) to thrust Caltech ahead by a 22-17 score. The Beavers continued to surge into the halftime break on a pair of Chauhan three-pointers bookending a fastbreak layup by junior Eshani Patel (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista). Caltech led by 10 at the break.

Held scoreless in the first half, junior Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) tallied the first eight Caltech points of the third quarter ahead of a Vondra three-pointer to build a 13-point advantage over the Sagehens. Edwards ultimately led both teams in scoring with 21 of the Beavers' 32 second half points, and in rebounds with 11 while collecting two steals and an assist.

"It was a team win through and through," Head Coach Annie Tarakchian said. "They trusted the scout, trusted each other, and got it done. I'm really proud of the strides they made tonight."

Chauhan finished with 15 points and eight boards without a single personal foul, and Vondra racked up 14 points with four rebounds and three steals. Arnett led the Beavers with four assists.

Tarakchian and the Beavers will return to action after finals week, facing Bethesda University (Anaheim, Calif.) on Tuesday, December 12. Follow the team on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
