PASADENA, Calif. – After inclement weather forced the cancellation of last week's match at UC Santa Cruz, the Caltech women's tennis team's 2023 spring season officially commenced Monday morning as the Beavers hosted No. 40 Brandeis University.

Sophomore Yoyo Benchetrit and senior Nina Solovyeva were perfect on the day, tallying a point for the Beavers in Doubles 2 (8-4) and on their respective Singles courts. Doubles 1 saw a tough battle between sophomore Anika Arora and junior Athena Kolli against the Brandeis Judges' top pairing, with the Beavers duo winning six games before the guests finally prevailed 8-6. 

In the singles session both teams split their Doubles 2 pairings between courts 3 and 4. Solovyeva was first to finish, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win in Singles 4, and Benchetrit followed closely with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in Singles 3, giving Caltech a 3-2 lead overall.
 
After Brandeis claimed a couple points to regain the lead, Junior Emily Zhang rebounded from her doubles defeat to cruise through the top singles matchup, 6-3, 6-2, tying up the match at 4-4. The Judges ultimately prevailed in dramatic fashion, claiming a three-set comeback win on court 6. 

The Beavers will have the week to rest before hitting the courts again this Sunday against Southwestern University (Texas), a team currently ranked 20th in the nation and seventh in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region. Follow the Beavers on Instagram and Twitter.
