PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Baseball resumed SCIAC play Friday afternoon, hosting the University of La Verne Leopards on a cool, windy afternoon.
Getting the start on the mound was
Leo Jenkins, pitching one solid inning as an opener. He allowed just one hit and denied the Leopards any runs, striking out their cleanup batter to end the top of the first inning.
Caltech lit up the scoreboard first, beginning with a leadoff single by
Will Dembski, who advanced on a ground ball by Jenkins and a
Jack Fishel single. Dembski came home on a wild pitch and Fishel scored on
Thorsen Kristufek's two-out RBI double, giving the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
Fishel singled again in the third inning, stole second base and then made it to third on a throwing error by La Verne's pitcher, before unfortunately getting tagged out at the plate on that wild play.
Gautam Chawla added to the Beavers' run total in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on Dembski's RBI double. Fishel crossed the plate for a second time on a double by
Jack Warren for Caltech's fourth run.
Jacob Alderete entered the game in relief in the second inning and pitched three more complete innings without allowing an earned run. Warren finished the game with a 3.1-inning appearance, holding the Leopards scoreless while he was on the mound.
The Beavers head to La Verne tomorrow to close out the series with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Watch live on the SCIAC Network app from Hudl TV, or at
