LA VERNE, Calif. — The Caltech baseball team headed to the University of La Verne on Saturday where they completed their three-game season series. The two programs first battled Friday night on the campus of Caltech before the Beavers journeyed eastward to play Games 2 and 3 at the Leopards' house.
Caltech gave La Verne a solid fight on Friday, putting up four runs on seven hits, though the Leopards seemed to find their strength on their home field on Saturday.
Highlighting the morning game for the Beavers was first-year shortstop
Brendan Flaherty, who recorded an impressive single to right center field in the top of the eighth to give the team some light. After advancing on a balk, a ball put in play by junior third baseman
Gautam Chawla would push Flaherty to third base, though the team would soon retire the side.
On the mound, junior right-handed pitcher
Kyle Reese put in an excellent two innings, recording no runs on no hits. It was Reese's fourth appearance this season.
Game 2 saw six Beavers put up eight hits, with junior designated hitter
Leo Jenkins and first-year left fielder
Jacob Alderete leading the way with two apiece. Both players would record doubles in the game, with Jenkins later advancing to third base.
The Beavers will now return to Pasadena as they prepare for their next game versus Bethesda this Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 12 p.m. in a home matchup. The game will be streamed live on the
SCIAC Network.
