THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Caltech baseball team wrapped up their three-game series versus California Lutheran on Saturday with a pair of road games versus the in-conference foe.
After facing off Friday night in Pasadena, the Beavers attempted to steal a win over the Kingsmen, who sit near the top of the SCIAC standings.
Saturday's first game was highlighted by a massive solo home run by senior center fielder
Will Dembski, who connected on his second long ball in back-to-back games after connecting on a deep shot Friday afternoon.
Dembski also scored after advancing on a double. The senior advanced to third base on a passed ball before sophomore right fielder
Jack Fishel hit a sacrifice fly to right field, sending Dembski across the plate.
The star would score again in the eighth inning after advancing on a hit-by-pitch. A single through the left side from Fishel advanced Dembski to second, before reaching home on an error.
The Beavers recorded seven hits in the contest and had no errors.
After a brief break following the first game of the day, Caltech began Game 2 off hot, scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. A hit through the right side by third baseman
Leo Jenkins would put the junior on first base, before advancing to second thanks to a ball put in play by Fishel. With runners on first and second, a well-placed single from first-year shortstop
Mark Hu loaded the bases with first-year designated hitter
Sayuj Choudhari due up at the plate.
In just the 11th at-bat of his collegiate career, the newcomer connected on a massive double, scoring Jenkins, Fishel and Hu and putting the Beavers up 3-0 before retiring the side.
Caltech logged seven hits, with first-year left fielder
Jacob Alderete leading the way with two.
The Beavers will now turn their focus toward the Whittier College Poets, who the team will face in a three-game series this weekend. Game 1 will be held at North Field on Saturday, Apr. 22 before the group heads on the road for Games 2 and 3.
