PASADENA, Calif. — The Caltech men's water polo team officially announced its 2023 schedule on Friday morning.
The program will look to improve on
its 2022 season, which saw the team earn
several impressive wins and
compete down to the wire with some of the best Div. III teams in the nation. The group will take on a number of high-level opponents in nonconference play before facing foes in the outstanding Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The final Division III national poll in 2022 saw a remarkable eight SCIAC teams make up the top-ten.
The Beavers will take on Cypress College in a road exhibition game on Wednesday, Aug. 30 before heading to Pennsylvania for their season opener on Saturday, Sep. 2. There, the team will compete in a four-game round-robin tournament as part of the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
Upon their return to California, the group will face Citrus College on Thursday, Sep. 7, with the location and time still to be announced. Last year, the Beavers earned a
thrilling 13-9 victory over the Owls.
A few days later, Caltech will host the squad from Chaffey College as the Beavers try to make it three straight victories over the Panthers. The Beavers nabbed the
14-8 win against their eastern opponent last season in a game they led wire to wire. The two teams will face off on Thursday, Sep. 14, with the time yet to be announced.
The program will begin conference play on Saturday, Sep. 23 as they travel to Thousand Oaks for an 11 a.m. clash with Cal Lutheran University. The team will then return to Pasadena for their conference home opener on Wednesday, Sep. 27 as the Beavers battle the rival Tigers of Occidental College.
Another significant game will come on Monday, Oct. 9, as Caltech faces Pomona-Pitzer in a rematch of their
2022 contest. Despite the Sagehens coming in as the top-ranked team in Division III last season, the Beavers put up quite the fight in a game they led until the final few minutes.
The group's final home game of the season will see the Beavers battle the University of Redlands on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. Please join us as the program honors its graduating seniors in a ceremony prior to the game.
