GREENWOOD, Ind. — Three members of the Caltech volleyball team received 2024 Division III Academic All-District honors, College Sports Communicators (CSC)
announced via a press release on Tuesday.
Sophomore outside hitter
Alize Bakker (Portland, Ore. / Westview), sophomore libero
Celine Wu (Potomoc, Md. / Montgomery Blair) and junior setter
Giulia Murgia (Iglesias, Italy / Istituto di Istruzione Superiore G. Asproni) collected the award for achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher while competing in either 90 percent of the team's matches or starting in at least 66 percent of them. Only sophomores and older were eligible for nomination.
The three Beavers each played a significant role in the team's triumphs this past season, which included two wins over Occidental College (
3-1;
3-2), a
3-1 win over Chapman University, a
3-2 victory over Westcliff University and 3-0 sweeps over both
West Coast Baptist College and
Pacific Union College.
Bakker led the team in kills with 220 to put her name second all-time in program history for kills in a single season; Wu recorded 325 digs to finish sixth in Caltech history for digs in one season. The libero now sits sixth on the all-time Caltech career digs list after just two seasons. Murgia led the Beavers in both assists (432) and aces (35), moving up to eighth all-time on the program's career assists list with 700.
The three standouts will return to the court next fall as they take on the 2025 season.
