Women's Soccer Duels La Verne at Home

PASADENA, Calif. — Caltech Women's Soccer hosted the University of La Verne for a Saturday morning matchup at North Field in which the Beavers battled hard to the final whistle.

The Beavers used a two-goalie approach in the game with junior Sophia Steven (Broomfield, Colo./ Peak to Peak Charter) playing the first half and sophomore Haleigh Gardner (San Ramon, Calif. / California) playing the second. They each tallied five saves including an impressive leaping grab from Gardner with 30 minutes left in the match. La Verne had multiple players in the box and fired a shot right on goal, but Gardner covered the space and dropped on top of the ball right in front of the net denying the Leopards the score.

Sophomore midfielder Louise Marie Choi-Schattle (Barrington, R.I. / Barrington) fired off several near-goals, including one shot on target in the first few minutes of the second half which the La Verne keeper collected for a save. Later in the period, Choi-Schattle missed just wide after shooting from the top of the box following a Caltech corner kick.

Caltech battled hard throughout the physical contest, keeping the pressure up to the very end; the group created multiple chances on offense but could not find the back of the net.

Head Coach Emmy Meyring and the Beavers will seek to rebound as they hit the road for their next matchup against Whittier College on Oct. 2 at 7:00 pm. Watch live on FloSports.tv (subscription required) and follow live stats at GoCaltech.com/coverage.
