SALEM, Ore. – The Caltech women's soccer team took on the Willamette University Bearcats Sunday morning at Sparks Field, the second and final leg of the team's Oregon road trip.
Both teams dug in defensively early on with neither team managing a shot until the sixth minute as a Willamette attempt sailed wide. The hosts tallied the first goal in the 18th minute but the Beavers kept up the pressure, breaking through for a pair of attempts at goal and forcing a save by the keeper.
The offense picked up in intense fashion after halftime as the teams traded shots. The Beavers' relentless attack earned three consecutive corner kicks beginning in the 58th minute en route to a game total of six versus the home side's three. Eventually the Bearcats would bury a second goal and the 2-0 score would hold.
Louise Marie Choi-Schattle (Barrington, R.I. Barrington),
Jennifer Solgaard (Palo Alto, Calif. Palo Alto) and
Mia Gallo (Highlands Ranch, Colo. Highlands Ranch) each peppered the Willamette backline with multiple shots in the contest, and goalkeeper
Haleigh Gardner (San Ramon, Calif. / California) made five saves while playing the full 90 minutes.
Head Coach Emmy Gardner and the Beavers will return home to Pasadena to face the Life Pacific University Warriors on Saturday, Sep. 14 at 2 p.m. Watch live on
