Caltech Men’s Tennis Opens 2025 Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Caltech Men's Tennis continued its preparation for the 2025 SCIAC season with the International Tennis Association (ITA) Small College Regionals this past weekend.

The Beavers show immense promise for the 2025 season, with Tennis Recruiting Network ranking their recent recruiting class No. 18 among all Division-III programs nationally. This adds to a team that already had a great 2024 season, making it to the SCIAC semifinals in their second postseason appearance in three years and finishing No. 32 in ITA's national rankings.

Junior Constantin Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne (Paris / Lycée Jean de La Fontaine) led the way for the Beavers, making it to the quarterfinals of his doubles bracket and semifinals of his singles bracket. Paired with junior Tejas Ram (Allen, Texas / Allen), the duo - who finished 2024 ranked No. 6 regionally - opened Flight A with an 8-6 win over Whittier College's Dylan Duong and Sam Neijeinhuizen. From there, they showed deep resolve in a round of 16 win over Pomona-Pitzer's Blake Bothmer and Tanner Ige, going to a tiebreaker and prevailing 7-4.

Individually, Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne bounced back from a first-set loss against CMS' Raja before staving off elimination with a tiebreaker second-set win and taking the decisive tiebreaker set 10-7. He followed it up with victory over Pomona-Pitzer's Neil Chulani, winning the first set on a tiebreaker before comfortably blanking Chulani 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Continuing to show his edge in clutch situations, he came back from another first set defeat to best CMS' Rohan Yarlagadda 10-7 in yet another tiebreaker third set.

Alongside them in doubles play for the Beavers was the duo of senior Andrew Zabelo (Florham Park / N.J. Newark Academy) and junior Eric He (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan), who finished 2024 ranked No. 8 regionally. They stormed through their opponents 8-3, 8-5 and 8-7(4) en route to the final.

Back in singles play, first-years Soren Ghorai (Woodway, Wash. / Eastside Preparatory School) and David Jin (San Jose, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty High School) came in ready to prove that their recruiting class was worth the hype. Ghorai swept UCSC's Julian Morris 6-0, 6-0 and defeated Pomona-Pitzer's Lucas Elkins 10-4 in a tiebreaker to advance to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Jin dominated in his round of 32 win over University of California Santa Cruz' Adam Kahn 6-1, 6-1.

Caltech was well represented with strong showings from multiple players, showing great promise for the 2025 season.
