Three Beavers Score as Men's Soccer Draws Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Caltech Men's Soccer battled hard against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen in an exciting and highly competitive Saturday afternoon SCIAC matchup. The back-and-forth thriller ended as a hard-fought 3-3 draw.

Cal Lutheran took an early lead in the first half, scoring a goal off a penalty kick. The goal came in the 19th minute, and the rest of the first half saw junior goalkeeper Ethan Hamel make several great saves for the Beavers.

The second half of the match was action-packed, with a great deal of yellow cards given out to players on both teams, three for Cal Lutheran and two for the Beavers. As the fall season nears its end, the competition and grit level are at a high, and both these SCIAC teams demonstrated that in the latter half of this game.

Sophomore Dean Yao evened out the score sheet 1-1 in the 71st minute, breaking through after a series of shots made by the Beavers that were saved by the Kingsmen's goalkeeper.

Shortly after, sophomore Matthew Luk continued the scoring for Caltech on a penalty kick, which came after another yellow card was handed to Cal Lutheran. The Kingsmen tied it back up on another penalty kick about three minutes after the Luk goal.

The Beavers answered back once again with senior Ishaan Mantripragada scoring to take back the lead, being assisted by Luk.

After another pair of yellow cards were handed out, the Kingsmen tied it back up in the 86th minute, and the score remained 3-3 until the final horn.

Despite the tie, the Beavers displayed grit and built up good momentum, which they are looking to build upon when they face Pomona-Pitzer at home for their final regular season game of 2025.
