Caltech Men's Soccer Downs Cal Lutheran

PASADENA, Calif. – The Caltech men's soccer team hosted California Lutheran University Saturday, earning another SCIAC victory off a second-half goal and defending the lead until the final whistle.

Caltech broke the deadlock shortly after the halftime break as Jack Myles fed the ball to Etienne Cassanova, who fired it home in the 47th minute for his fifth goal of the season.. This goal ties Casanova with fellow Senior player Ishaan Mantripragada for points scored this season. Cassanova currently has an impressive 32 career goals, with Mantripragada following at 28.

The Beavers kept control of the ball throughout the game, especially in the first half, keeping strong possession. In the scoreless first half, Caltech made six total shots, two of which were made by Junior Ethan Feng. The Beavers' defense didn't allow a single Cal Lutheran shot on goal in the opening half.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Cal Lutheran put forth a strong offensive effort, attempting to get even with Caltech. While they would lead with eight second-half shots versus Caltech's seven, only three of them were on target and goalkeeper Alex Crowley saved them all.

The victory moves Caltech into third place in the SCIAC standings with a 3-2 conference record. The Beavers will continue their season Wednesday, Oct. 8 in Claremont, going up against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags.
