Battling the rain, Caltech women's swimming bested La Verne, 221-55, and Occidental, 195-98, in a meet between four SCIAC teams at Occidental college in Los Angeles Saturday.  

Sophomore Elizabeth Ma (Burien, Wash. / Mount Rainier) won the 400-yard Individual Medley in 4:41.86, which would qualify as the fourth-fastest time on the Caltech top 10 list if Ma did not already hold the fastest time in school history in that event. Her first-year teammate Alyssa Kwon (Derwood, Md. / Montgomery Blair High School) swam the same race in 4:48.01, officially the sixth-fastest time in school history.  

First-year Lucia Zhang (Irvine, Calif. / The Loomis Chaffee School) swam the 1000-yard Freestyle in 11:21.21, the seventh-fastest time on the Caltech top 10 list for that event. She also claimed 8th in the top 10 progressions with a 2:34.38 200-yard Breaststroke.  

Senior Jana Woo (Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) continued her dominance in diving, winning the 3-meter event with a score of 279.60.  

"Despite raining conditions, the team did a nice job diving, racing, and competing. We are looking forward to seeing what they can do this weekend at the Caltech Invite!" Head Coach Andy Brabson said.  

Caltech returns home for the Caltech Invite Nov. 22-23. Action starts at 10:00 a.m. on both days.
