The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association has named five Caltech student-athletes to the Division III Scholar All-America teams for the 2024-25 season.
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections, must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
On the women's side, first-year Ava Balanon (Vacaville, Calif. / Buckingham) and junior Jana Woo (Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) received the honors. As a group, Caltech Women's Swim & Dive had the third highest team GPA out of 174 qualifying Division III teams.
On the men's side, first-year Anthony Wang (San Jose, Calif. / Evergreen Valley), sophomore Marcel Liu (Natick, Mass. / Phillips Academy) and first-year Thomas Fenton (Lynchburg, Va. / Virginia Episcopal) earned the accolades. Caltech Men's Swim & Dive ranked 11th out of 138 qualifying teams.
Woo was named Athlete of the Year at Caltech's 2024-25 Student-Athlete Celebration. She was an NCAA regional qualifier for the third consecutive season and is the current school-record holder in both the 1-meter and 3-meter. She was named the SCIAC diver of the week twice during the 2024-25 campaign.
On the men's side of the diving platforms, Wang was also a regional qualifier.
Between the lane lines, Liu set the Caltech program record in the 100 fly event this past season with a time of 48.61.
