Caltech Women's Basketball showed grit and determination in a clash with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Braun Gymnasium in Pasadena Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Zeynep Goktepe (Istanbul, Turkey / The MacDuffie School) led the Beavers in scoring with 13 points. She provided dynamism to the Caltech offense, often cutting into the lane for shifty layups. She earned three trips to the line in the contest knocking down four of her six free throws.
Sophomore Kyra Phaychanpheng (Chino Hills, Calif. / Chino Hills) turned in a gutsy performance Wednesday, scoring 12 points of her own and leading the Beavers with seven rebounds. She turned defense into offense with three steals. The Beavers executed 10 steals against the Athenas on Wednesday and converted them into 18 points.
First-year Isabella Lo (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) distributed the ball well against the Athenas with four assists. She is second on the team with 23 assists this season, trailing only Goktepe's 24.
The contest was the first half of a home-and-home against the Athenas, as Caltech will face CMS in Claremont Saturday, Jan 3 at 4:00 p.m.
