Caltech Women's Basketball showed some promising signs in the second half of a home-and-home series against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont on Saturday.
First-year Isabella Lo (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) had arguably her best performance as a Beaver. She made 75% of her threes, leading the team with three made baskets from beyond the arc. She also paced the Beavers in overall points (17) and steals (4). Her six rebounds tied with sophomores Kyra Phaychanpheng (Chino Hills, Calif. / Chino Hills) and Louise Scriven (Paraparaumu Beach, New Zealand / Paraparaumu College) for the team lead.
Caltech moved the ball well against the Athenas, collecting assists on over half of the team's field goals. Lo led the Beavers with four helpers.
The Beavers shot just under 40% from three-point range on Saturday. In the second and third quarters, the Institute drained their long bombs at a 50% clip, making six of 12 attempts from distance during that span. The hot streak helped the Beavers build a five-point lead with 7:53 remaining in the first half.
The distance shooting also created opportunities in the key, as the Beavers ultimately scored nearly half their points in the paint.
Caltech travels to Redlands, Calif to face Redlands Wednesday, Jan 7 at 7:00 p.m.
