Caltech Men's Basketball Shows Strength Against Pomona-Pitzer

PASADENA, Calif. – The Caltech men's basketball team hosted the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at the Braun Athletic Center late Monday evening. The Beavers put up a strong fight against one of the perennial contenders in the SCIAC basketball championships, falling short with a final score of 84-68.

The Beavers were led by standout performances by their starters, with Noah Hicks playing all 40 minutes and leading the team with 18 points, along with six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Keep an eye out down the stretch as Hicks is just 45 points short of joining the 1000 points club in his junior season.

Stuart Florescu dominated the boards with a team-high nine rebounds, including three offensive rebounds, while adding 14 points, three assists and one steal. Matt Cantor contributed eight points, five rebounds, and a pair assists, while Josh Balami and James Downs combined for eight points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Caltech held a six-point lead with 8:54 remaining in the first half, and the game saw three lead changes and 1 tie. The Beavers showed their strength in the paint with 28 points. The Beavers also shot an impressive 40.9% from beyond the arc, edging out the Sagehens who posted a three-point percentage of 37.5%.

The bench also made significant contributions, adding 20 points to the scoreboard. Chase Williamson and Andrew Konclanes each scored nine points, with Konclanes leading the team in three-pointers made (3 for 7). Pranit Gunjal added two points to round out the bench effort.

Despite the loss, the Beavers demonstrated resilience by staying in the game for as long as they could. They're a young team looking forward to getting better and building on this performance in preparations for next Saturday's SCIAC game against the (12-8) Chapman University Panthers, once again in the Braun Athletic Center.
