LOS ANGELES – The Caltech women's water polo headed to Eagle Rock on Saturday morning to face local SCIAC rival Occidental College at De Mandel Aquatics Center.
The hosting Tigers opened up the scoring before Caltech got on the board by way of
Mia Mutadich (London, U.K. / Notting Hill and Earling), as the junior center found the back of the net on a powerplay.
The Beavers responded with a strong second quarter, holding the home team scoreless while netting three goals of their own. Sophomore
Emma Titus (Hood River, Ore. / Hood River Valley) buried a pair of goals in the second, bookending a powerplay goal by first-year
Yolotzin Subdias (Los Angeles / Eagle Rock). The effort cut the Tigers' lead to just one goal at halftime.
Titus and senior
Charlotte Zhang (San Diego / Torrey Pines) put away the Beavers' fifth and sixth goals at the end of the fourth quarter. Titus came away as a standout on both sides of the pool with her three goals, one assist and team-high three steals.
Junior
Maya Dickson (Atlanta, Ga. / North Atlanta) and Subdias created more chances for the Beavers by each drawing three exclusions against Occidental. Subdias also contributed a pair of assists, as did junior
Madelyn Gilbert (Clovis, Calif. / Clovis East).
Head Coach
Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will return home to Braun Pool to face University of Redlands on Wednesday, March 26 in a 7 p.m. SCIAC matchup.
