CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Caltech women's water polo team battled on the road in a Saturday morning matchup against the high-powered Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Mia Mutadich (London, U.K. / Notting Hill and Earling) scored the first three goals of the game for Caltech, added an assist, and recorded a steal.
Caltech's defense held CMS to just two goals in the first period and kept the game within one point early. The Beavers added another goal in the second half to stay within reach, trailing 6-2 at halftime. Their relentless defense kept them competitive against a team that averages 17 points per game against conference opponents this season.
Maya Dickson (Atlanta, Ga. / North Atlanta) and Madelyn Gilbert (Clovis, Calif. / Clovis East) contributed second-half goals, while Elizabeth Field (Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) made two saves for the Beavers.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will host the Whittier College Poets on Wednesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. For more information on Women's Water Polo and all things Caltech Athletics, stay posted on gocaltech.com.
