Zhang Has Career Day; Beavers Battle No. 5 La Verne

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Women's Water Polo welcomed in the La Verne Leopards Saturday morning, narrowly falling to the No. 5 team in Division III by a score of 13-9.

It was Senior Day for the Beavers as they honored goalkeeper Elizabeth Field (Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) and attacker Charlotte Zhang (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) before the game. Once the game started, Zhang was fully dialed in. The senior didn't score a goal on the day but, instead, set a career-high with five assists. Her five points also set a career-high and she now has 24 points on the season.

Utility Maya Dickson (Atlanta, Ga. / North Atlanta) had herself a day as well. Dickson was a lethal shooter as she tallied five goals and was also a menace on the defensive side. With those five goals, Dickson hit the 50-goal milestone. Defensively, she notched four steals and four field blocks; she leads all of SCIAC in both of those categories.

Sophomore attacker Emma Titus (Hood River, Ore. / Hood River Valley) also had a good day in the pool. Titus scored two goals and was very important on the defensive side of things. She recorded two steals and three field blocks in the game to go with two sprint wins she got in the first and second quarters.

Junior attacker Madelyn Gilbert (Clovis, Calif. / Clovis East) collected three points in the game with a goal and two assists. Gilbert's 32 assists rank best on the team and fourth in the SCIAC. She also made her impact felt on the defensive side with two steals.

The next game for Head Coach Jonathan Bonafede and his Beavers will be on Wednesday, April 16 when they host the nationally-ranked No. 4 Cal Lutheran Regals at 7 p.m.
