Caltech Announces 11th Hall of Honor Induction Class

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Athletics is proud to announce seven inductees from eight different sports into the Caltech Athletics Hall of Honor.

Aditya Bhagavathi '15, James Blackwood '15, Jennifer Haase '85, Teri Juarez '13, Dan Kleiman '98, Brian Pensorini '13 and Lisa Yee '10 make up the 2025 class. The induction ceremony will take place among Caltech Athletics' Fall Orange Out festivities on Saturday, Oct. 18. While the ceremony is an invitation-only event, live coverage will be available on the SCIAC Network.

The individuals receiving this honor are as follows:

Aditya BhagavathiAditya Bhagavathi '16
Men's Cross Country, Track & Field

In 2015, Bhagavathi earned All-SCIAC recognition in both Track & Field and Cross Country. 10 years after he graduated, Bhagavathi still holds the fourth-fastest Caltech men's 5000 meters time in program history. He finished in 14:44.66 in 2015, becoming just the second Caltech Men's Track & Field student-athlete ever to break the 15-minute barrier.

Bhagavathi also holds the sixth fastest 1500 meters (3:59.41) and 3000 meters times in our men's program history. Only three Beavers have run the 3000m faster than Bhagavathi's 8:43.28 since 2002.

Aditya also earned Second Team All-SCIAC in Cross Country as a Senior. Running in the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championship in Mason, Ohio, he finished the 8K course in 25:34.7, which remains the fifth fastest finish in program history despite the cold and muddy track conditions.

During his career, Bhagavathi earned five All-SCIAC academic team selections and was named to the All-Region team by US Track and Field in 2014 and 2015.

Jim Blackwood shootingJames Blackwood '16
Men's Water Polo

Blackwood is the sole representative of Caltech Men's Water Polo to be inducted into the Hall of Honor 2024-25 class.

Though he graduated in 2016, he still holds an incredible four program records in the sport. In 2015 he set the program record for single-season assists with 53 and in a game with six, the latter value tying a record set by Adam Kham. That same year, Blackwood set the program record in exclusions drawn in a game with nine.

Blackwood amassed 155 assists in his Caltech career, still the most by any Beaver.

Women's Cross Country

Haase is one of three 2025 inductees representing Caltech Cross Country and one of three women in this year's class.

In 1984-85, she finished in the top three runners in the 5k four  times. She also finished 8th out of 54 runners at NCAA Regionals with a time of 18:58.5 in an era when the 19-minute 5k separated elite runners from the rest of the pack.

She was a first-team All-SCIAC selection in that season along with being named the team MVP.

Teri Juarez dribblingTeri Juarez '12
Women's Basketball, Volleyball

Juarez is one of four multi-sport athletes in this year's class of inductees. In 2011-2012 she led Caltech Women's Basketball with an incredible 208 total rebounds; none of her teammates had more than 99. She had over twice as many offensive rebounds and more than twice as many defensive rebounds than any other Beaver player. That year, Juarez was also second on the team in total points and field goal percentage. She led the 2011-12 team in assists with 36.

Juarez was top-five in career rebounds on the program leaderboard at the time of her graduation. She won the Caltech Female Athlete of the Year twice, and a profile of her was featured in Sports Illustrated in 2013.

Dan KleimanDan Kleiman '98
Men's Cross Country, Track & Field

In 1996 Dan Kleiman was named the SCIAC Men's Runner of the Year in cross country.

Between his two sports, he made first-team All-SCIAC five times. In 1996-97, he was named the Caltech Men's Athlete of the Year. Earlier that year, he became the fourth man from Caltech ever to win the SCIAC championship in cross country. He crossed the line before any of the other 78 runners with a time of 25:50. That race accounted for just one of his three top-five finishes at SCIAC Championships in cross country.

Baseball

Representing Caltech Baseball in this year's Hall of Honor class, Penserini was a one-time Caltech record holder for most hits in a season.

In 2011-12 he hit a remarkable .430 through 93 at-bats, ranking second in SCIAC in that category. By the time he graduated in 2013, he had become one of the greatest hitters ever to grace Caltech's North Field.

He was named the Caltech Male Athlete of the Year in both 2012 and 2013.

Lisa Yee dribblingLisa Yee '10
Women's Basketball, Volleyball, Track & Field

Yee is the only tri-sport athlete in this year's class of inductees. Given her remarkable achievements in basketball rebounding, volleyball blocks, and high Jump, Yee may be the greatest all-around jumper in the history of Caltech athletics. She is certainly the greatest rebounder the Caltech Women's Basketball team has ever seen; 15 years after graduating, Yee still holds the program records for career rebounds (793) and rebounds in a season (273).

On the volleyball court, in 2009, Yee had six total solo blocks in a match, tying her teammate that year, Katie Peters, for the most by a Beaver in program history, making Yee one of the very few Beavers with program records in multiple sports besides Cross Country and Track & Field multi-sport student-athletes. That said, Yee's 4'4" high jump remains the eighth highest in program history.
