ORANGE, Calif. – Caltech Men's Soccer finished off their road trip on Wednesday in Orange, California, where they faced the Chapman University Panthers in a late afternoon match.
The Beavers faced an uphill battle for a majority of the contest as an unfortunate deflection into the Beavers' own net in the third minute of the match gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. Caltech shook off the misplay and recovered, not allowing any goals for the rest of the first half.
As the clock wound down in the second half, the Beavers finally broke through as sustained pressure on offense paid off. Caltech got on the board after
Ishaan Mantripragada drilled a sneaky left-footed shot into the upper-left of the goal from 25 yards out, equalizing the match with just over five minutes to go.
The Panthers ultimately answered back about four minutes later, with a minute and a half left on the game clock. This was the game-winning goal for Chapman, making the final score 2-1 Panthers.
Despite the loss, the Beavers were not far behind in shots during this match, with the final count being 13-10, half of them coming from Mantripragada, which is a season-high for the senior forward.
The Beavers are returning home on Saturday afternoon and gearing up to face the University of Redlands Bulldogs at 2 p.m.
