The second game of the season for Caltech Men's Soccer ended with a nailbiter, with the Beavers nearly tying the game in the waning minutes but falling short of Illinois Tech by a 3-2 score.
After Illinois Tech scored the first goal of the game, Eitienne Casanova fired back, nailing a difficult free kick and tying the game at 1-1.
With under 8 minutes left and the score having moved to 3-1 in favor of the Scarlet Hawks, Eitienne Casanova buried a second goal off of a give-and-go, keeping the Beavers alive. Caltech's very next possession ended up with Jack Myles (#9) in the box who, despite having a great shot on goal, was thwarted by the goalkeeper's efforts.
"Definitely a little frustrating because we created a lot of good chances and could have scored more goals, and we made a few mistakes that cost us," commented Head Coach Duncan Gillis. "Still, I.I.T. was a good team and we will learn from the mistakes and keep getting better as we prepare for SCIAC play."
Eitienne Casanova continues to extend the all-time scoring record for Caltech's Men's Soccer, while Ishaan Mantripragada remains tied with him for the all-time career assists record.
The Beavers are currently preparing to face Concordia University Chicago this Sunday.
