Caltech Men's Basketball gave La Verne a tough fight at Braun Gymnasium in Pasadena on Wednesday night.
Sophomore Stuart Florescu (Toronto, Ontario / Crescent School) led all scorers with a career-high 25 points against La Verne. He dominated in the paint and made seven of his 10 free throws while earning a double-double with a game-leading 13 rebounds. He also led Caltech with three assists.
Caltech saw double-digit scoring from four different players Wednesday night, as First-year Ryan Rodrigue (San Diego, Calif. / Santa Fe Christian) led Beaver non-starters with 10 points. Sophomore Chase Williamson (McDonough, Ga. / Union Grove) had a strong shooting night for the Beavers. He hit five of his 10 shots from the field and converted two of his three shots from beyond the arc on the way to 15 points on the night.
The Institute beat La Verne on the offensive glass in the first half, winning the battle of the offensive boards 7-0 in the opening half of play. Meanwhile, Florescu scored 14 first-half points and first-year Dorian Glogovac (Vancouver, B.C. / St. George's School Vancouver) scored 13 of his eventual 19 as the Beavers took a 38-37 lead into halftime. Helped by their offensive rebounding, the Beavers outscored La Verne in second-chance points 16-6 on the night.
Caltech remains at home to face Whittier Saturday Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
