LOS ANGELES – Caltech Track and Field broke multiple PRs and achieved program top-10 results at the Occidental Distance Carnival in Eagle Rock, Calif. On March 14.
On the women's side, sophomore Hypatia Hamkins (New York, N.Y. / The Brearley School) broke her PR in the 800-meter, finishing in 11th place in 2:21.32. The effort moves her from fourth to third on the Caltech all-time list for the event.
Sophomore Raquel "Rocky" Lample (Encino, Calif. / Notre Dame HS) set a new PR with her 5:25.09 time in the 1500-meter. Senior Camilla Power (Edmonds, Wash. / Saint James) finished the 5K in 19.30.78, a personal best for her.
In the throwing events, Senior Sophia Steven (Broomfield, Colo. / Peak to Peak Charter) set a personal best in the discus with her toss of 35.11 meters. The throw improved her fifth-best all-time mark in Caltech program history.
On the men's side, senior Jacob Wolmer (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) finished fourth overall in the 10k with a time of 31:55.45. first-year Isaac Thompson (New Castle, Colo. / Coal Ridge High School) set a personal best in the 400-meter, finishing in 52.58. Sophomore Stephen Goehringer (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) ran a personal-best 15:19.48 in the 5k. The race improved on his tenth-best all-time performance in Caltech history.
In the field events, senior Aaban Syed placed second overall in the pole vault, clearing 4.30 meters. Senior Luke Lamitina (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Winchester Thurston) threw a personal-best 49.17 meters in the hammer throw, moving him up to the second-best throw all-time in Caltech history for that event.
Caltech travels to San Marcos, Calif. For the CSUSM Mangrum Invitational Friday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m.
