PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech Athletics has named
Jason Cook as the new Men's Tennis Head Coach.
A Southern California native, Cook joins the Beavers with a wide and extensive array of tennis experience. His coaching career runs from coast to coast, serving as an assistant coach for NCAA Division I programs at the University of Miami and Pepperdine University. He then spend several successful years as a freelance coach, covering juniors through seniors, private sessions and clinics, and guiding players to play at UCLA, Pepperdine, USC, Columbia University and the University of Virginia, as well as consulting actors who portrayed tennis players in a major motion picture.
Playing for UCLA, Cook earned All PAC-10 First Team honors, and in 1999 earned NCAA All-American distinction. That year, he played #1 doubles and #2 singles, propelling the Bruins to a #1 ranking as they finished as runners-up in the NCAA Championship. He carried this momentum into the ATP Tour, competing around the world and earning rankings in the 300s for doubles and the top 500 for singles.
"I'd like to thank Athletic Director
Terry Tumey for having the foresight to select me as the next Head Men's Tennis Coach at Caltech, college admissions for the extensive information sessions during the interview process and everyone on the athletic staff to help getting me up to speed in the middle of the Fall season," said Cook. "I am honored to take over the program and look forward to building its success in the lab, classroom, and on the tennis court."
