Caltech Men's tennis suffered a 9-0 loss at Pomona-Pitzer
in their final conference match of the season. The highlight of the
day came from Caltech Frosh, Brian Ventura (Nacagdoches, TX).
Ventura playing at #3 singles won the opening set 6-4 against the
Sagehen's Michael Powell, but then went on to drop the second
set. Ventura had match point in the deciding tiebreak at 9-8 but
was unable to convert when his second serve sailed long. This gave
Powell a chance to get back in the tiebreak, which he eventually
won 11-9. “It was great to be in a tight match with a quality
team like the Sagehens. This was a good performance for Ventura as
he had a chance to learn some things that he can use for next
season,” said Coach Gamble.
Caltech will play in the SCIAC Championships next Friday and
Saturday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps where they will face the number
one seeds and eighth ranked school in the nation, CMS.
