PASADENA, Calif. – Playing their third straight nationally ranked opponent, the Caltech men's tennis squad fell to #6 UC Santa Cruz 9-0 on Friday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis contest.
The Banana Slugs swept all but one of the singles matched in straight sets in taking the victory. The Beavers got a solid effort at the No. 5 singles spot as Alex Runkel lost a tight contest in a third set super tiebreaker.
Friday's match was the final home match for three Caltech seniors as Anuj Arora, Karthik Narimhan and Wesley Yu completed their home careers in a Beaver uniform.
Caltech has played the last two national champions this season. Earlier this season, the Beavers hosted Middlebury, who won the national title in 2010, while UCSC won the title in 2009.
