PASADENA (Sept. 18, 2019) – The Caltech women's soccer team recovered from a slow start and nearly found the net on multiple occasions late during Wednesday's SCIAC opening game.

Defensively, the Beavers held the Panthers off the scoreboard for the game's final 50 minutes thanks to strong play from center backs Nayla Abney (Sewell, N.J. / Deptford Township) and Catherine Kauber (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville). Once the second half hit, Caltech also had better luck in generating quality chances from their group of forwards. Junior Netra Ravishankar (Fremont, Calif. / American) and sophomore Zoe Rock (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) each came up with two shots on goals during that span. Ravishankar got out ahead of the Panthers defense on multiple occasions with a burst of speed while Rock also excelled in setting up her teammate from across the field.

Freshman goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington (Bozeman, Mon. / Deerfield Academy), meanwhile coped well with Chapman's first-half attack, making six saves to give her 45 on the year.

Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will hit the road for their next SCIAC contest on Saturday, Sept 21 when they travel to California Lutheran University for a 2:30 p.m. game.
