Women's Soccer Holds Redlands Close in Hard Fought First Half

Box Score

REDLANDS, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2021) – Caltech women's soccer traveled East for a Saturday morning SCIAC contest against the University of Redlands Bulldogs in which the Beavers outshot Redlands 8-7 in the opening half and earned four corner kicks without conceding one to the home side.

Freshman forward Jennifer Solgaard (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) was instrumental in generating offense early on with her numerous attacking runs to keep the Bulldogs back in their own half of the field. As a result of the strong effort, Caltech came inches away from an equalizing goal in the 16th minute, as freshman Katherine Marquis (Tewksbury, Mass. / Phillips Academy Andover) fired a blistering shot from about 25 yards away that rang off the crossbar.

Junior goalkeeper Eve Fine (Locust Valley, N.Y. / Friends Academy) started the match and saved six shots on goal in her 65 minutes. She leads the SCIAC in saves with 66 on the year. Backup keeper Valerie Hetherington (Bozeman, Mont. / Deerfield Academy) shut the door on the Redlands attack with a pair of saves in her 25 minutes to close out the match.

Next up for Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers is a road match at California Lutheran University on Oct. 20.
