Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2021) – Caltech notched its first multi-goal game of the season to come within seconds of claiming the program's first SCIAC victory against the University of Redlands Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.
A hard-fought battle from start to finish, the Beavers held the guests scoreless through the first 84 minutes of play, with junior goalkeeper Eve Fine (Locust Valley, N.Y. / Friends Academy) making numerous aggressive saves in traffic. Caltech's back line helped impede the Redlands offense by holding them to shots from distance and junior defender Catherine Kauber (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) saved a header from close range off the goal line in the second half.
Senior midfielder Zoe Rock (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) created several threats on offense and culminating in an assist to sophomore Maya Rushlow (San Francisco, Calif. / Lick-Wilmerding), who scored the first goal of the match and her first of the season in the 51st minute. Rock nearly scored a few minutes later with a dangerous header that just drifted high over the crossbar. Earlier in the first half, freshman Adele Basturk (Sunnyvale, Calif. / Homestead) worked free on the right side and sent a perfect low cross into the box that was touched just wide, as was another with rookie Shelby Scott (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) getting a cleaner foot on the end of a ball but knocking it just wide as well.
Senior Schuyler Dick (Hudson, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) netted a beauty and potential back-breaking fifth goal of the season in the 63rd minute to make it a 2-0 score. Once again, she took full advantage of a free kick and floated off the fingertips of the jumping Redlands keeper from more than 30 yards away.
Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will honor our graduating seniors Dick, Rock, and Jocelyn Kho (Temple City, Calif. / Temple City) Saturday morning, Oct. 30, in their final match at home. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
