Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (Sep. 15, 2021) – Women's soccer commenced SCIAC play as Caltech hosted against a relentless Cal Lutheran squad in the team's first afternoon game of the season on Wednesday.
The visiting Regals fired a total of 21 shots, but some confident defensive play by the Beavers broke up many offensive threats before they could develop fully, often forcing CLU to settle for long-range looks. Sophomore defender Cameron Scantlin (San Diego, Calif. / Valhalla) was particularly effective in slowing their attack with her aggressive moves in and around the box.
Junior goalkeeper Eve Fine (Locust Valley, N.Y. / Friends Academy) got the start and made a trio of impressive saves, holding the Regals scoreless for the first half hour. Sophomore Megan Robertson (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) took over for the second half and stopped three shots of her own, including a diving save in the waning seconds of the match.
Head coach Ellery Gould demonstrably appreciated the efforts of sophomore Kathryn Thompson (Roseville, Calif. / Granite Bay) throughout the game for her poise in holding down the midfield, as well as freshman Jennifer Solgaard (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) in the front, who combined with her teammates to create some scoring opportunities.
The Beavers will hit the road for their next match, taking on Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on September 25 at 11 a.m.
