PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 22, 2022) – The No. 23 Caltech women's tennis team faced off against No. 15 Williams College on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Ephs 3-6 after a competitive match.
In doubles competition, freshman Riti Agarwal (Bangalore, India / Inventure Academy) and sophomore Emily Zhang (Sharon, Mass. / Sharon) played a well-fought match but were defeated by the Ephs 5-8 at court one. Freshman Anika Arora (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) and sophomore Athena Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) battled their opponents with a similar strength as their teammates but would lose the match 5-8 at court two. Closing out doubles with a win for the Beavers was senior-freshman duo Michelle Hyun (Cerritos, Calif. / Gretchen Whitney) and Payal Patel (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) through an 8-4 victory on court three.
The Beavers were down 1-2 heading into the singles portion of the match. Zhang was defeated 1-6, 7-5 at court one, while senior Jen Yu (Queens, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) unfortunately lost 4-6, 3-6 on court two. Agarwal dominated her opponent to secure a 6-4, 6-3 victory at third singles, but freshman Yoyo Benchetrit (Toronto, Ont. / St. Clements) was defeated 2-6, 4-6 at fourth singles. Hyun achieved the Beavers third and final victory of the day after defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-1 at court five. The singles competition concluded with junior Nina Solovyeva (Houston, Texas / Memorial) falling to her opponent 0-6, 2-6 at court six.
