Box Score PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 23, 2022) - The 22nd-ranked men's tennis program hosted the No. 12* Tufts University Jumbos on Wednesday morning, falling 1-8 to the visitors from Boston, Massachusetts.
Losing for the first time in four matches, the No. 22* Beavers (7-3) were victorious in first doubles but were bested by the Jumbos (3-1) who claimed two out of three doubles matches then swept singles.
Tufts took an early 2-0 lead in doubles with wins in the second and third spots. Thanks to the play of sophomores Kyle McCandless (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) and Daniel Wen (McLean, Va. / Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology) Caltech gained a little momentum after the duo won 8-7 in a tiebreaker set at first doubles. The Beavers trailed the Jumbos 1-2 when entering singles, where both teams have excelled this season. Unfortunately today's contest day belonged to Tufts, who justified their high ranking by only losing one set throughout the six singles matches.
Head Coach Jason Cohen and the Beavers are back in action on Friday, March 25, when they play host to the No. 26* Colby College Mules of Waterville, Maine. The match is slated to begin at 9:00 am and will be streamed live at GoCaltech.com.
