PASADENA, Calif. (Apr. 2, 2022) – In the afternoon match of a Saturday doubleheader, the No. 18 Caltech tennis team took on the Whitworth University Pirates at home. Fresh off a hard-fought 6-3 victory over Chapman University in the morning, the Beavers utilized their depth and team strength in defeating the visitors from Spokane, Washington, 7-2.
Led by the play of freshman Aditya Srinivasan (Pittsford, N.Y. / Pittsford Sutherland), sophomore Andrei Staicu (Cary, N.C. / Green Hope) and junior Nathan Zou (Murfreesboro, Tenn. / Central Magnet) the Beavers defeated Whitworth 7-2. With the win, the 18th nationally ranked Caltech squad moved its record to 10-5 (1-1 SCIAC) on the year.
In the opening doubles matches, Srinivasan teamed with Staicu in hammering their opponents 8 to 2 on the number 2 doubles court. Srinivasan followed that up by winning his singles match 6-2, 6-2 while Staicu controlled his singles opponent 6-4, 7-5. Zou, who teamed with freshman Bharathan Sundar (Southborough, Mass. / Alconquin Regional) in match three of doubles, also scored two points for the Beavers when he was victorious in his singles match on court one at 6-3, 6-4.
