Benchetrit Dominates Singles as No. 22 Women's Tennis Battles No. 20 Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. (Apr. 8, 2022) – Caltech Women's Tennis, currently ranked 22nd in the nation, took on the No. 20 University of Redlands Bulldogs in a blazing Friday afternoon matchup.

The Beavers came away with a point in the doubles session as their top pairing of sophomore Emily Zhang (Sharon, Mass. / Sharon) and freshman Anika Arora (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) perservered for an 8-6 win and their first doubles victory of the season.

Freshman Yochana Benchetrit (Toronto, Ont. / St. Clements) steamrolled her opponent in fourth singles 6-0, 6-1 for the most dominant performance of the singles session, earning her sixth win in the fourth spot this season.

Senior Michelle Hyun (Cerritos, Calif. / Gretchen Whitney) won her court five matchup with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 score to earn her sixth win of the year and her fifth in the fifth spot, and junior Nina Soloyeva (Houston, Texas / Memorial) continued to own court six with a 6-2, 6-2 win, good enough for her eight singles win of the season. 

The regionally sixth-ranked Beavers return home Saturday at 10 a.m. to host the Cal Lutheran Regals, who hold the 11th ranking in the West region.
