Women's Soccer Falls To Regals In SCIAC Opener

Box Score

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2022) - Coming off of the longest road trip in the history of the Caltech women's soccer program, the Beavers began SCIAC play on the road at California Lutheran University on Wednesday night.

As the coaching staff has preached all season long to the team, their significant and top of mind goal is to demonstrate continual improvement. This philosophy and realization of it has been effective as the Beavers have started the young season on the right foot.

Facing the Regals on the road was unquestionably the strongest foe and challenge Caltech has faced so far this year.  In spite of a vigorous effort, the Beavers came up short on Wednesday 1-0 in a very tightly fought match.

While statistically the Beavers were not at level with their hosts, head coach Jen Clark expressed satisfaction in the effort and energy demonstrated by her side. "I can't say enough about the progress that we're making," Clark said. " After giving up an early goal it was impressive that we hung in there and did our very best. While there aren't moral victories, as a group we were as happy as can be if you're going to lose."

The Beavers, whose record moved to (1-1-2, 0-1-0 SCIAC) in taking the loss, gained confidence that they can play with all of their opponents inside the conference. Building off of an incredible pre-conference schedule, the Beavers are staying well connected and continue to make strides both at practice and in the build up to games.

The women's soccer program is back in action and will look to level their SCIAC record when they face the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands at 11 AM on Saturday, September 17.
