PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2023) – The Caltech track and field teams traveled to Claremont, California on Saturday for the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers Meet.
Many Beavers competed across multiple events, with one of the most notable performances coming from junior
Meg Robertson in the hammer throw.
Robertson – whose personal-best throw in 2022 put her at second all-time in the Caltech record books – recorded an explosive 41.23 meter throw on Saturday, just .5 meters behind the winner and 2.67 meters behind her personal best.
The junior showed off her multiple-event abilities in two other events at the meet after earning seventh place in the discus throw (33.02m) and ninth place in the shot put (9.56m).
The Beavers saw high marks in the men's throwing events as well, as sophomore
Daniel Amelinez-Robles earned himself a top-ten spot in the hammer throw (37.25m, seventh) and in discus (34.56m, tenth). He also placed 13th overall in the shot put (10.85m).
Another big performer at the meet was sophomore
Joey Litvin, who ran a personal-best 8:38.31 in the men's 3000m to finish in ninth place among 82 total competitors.
In the women's 3000m, sophomore
Sophie Dalfonzo led the charge for the Beavers, placing 12th overall with a time of 10:33.93 – also a personal record. Behind Dalfonzo was first-year
Gigi Pistilli (10:50.80, 17th).
Sophomore
Isabela Ceniceros finished eighth in the women's 400m dash (1:06.41) and sophomore
Rucheng Pan placed 11th in the shot put (9.10m), 16th in discus (25.06m), and 18th in the hammer throw (29.16m). Fellow sophomore
Emily Hu also competed in the throws, with her best result coming in the hammer throw (33.93m, tenth).
Caltech's next meet will see them return to Claremont for the Rossi Relays on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. The team will then return home to Pasadena for their first and only home meet of the season on Saturday, Mar. 4 at 10 a.m. Follow the Caltech track and field teams on Instagram @caltechxctf.
