PASADENA, Calif. – The rain held off and the sun broke through the Southern California skies to allow for some high-powered men's tennis at the Caltech courts Thursday morning, as the Caltech men's tennis team hosted Bowdoin College in a much anticipated match.
With visiting Polar Bears holding a No. 12 national ranking, just one spot above the Beavers, the day began with three absolute grinders in the doubles session. The middle court required a 7-point tiebreak to settle the score, and the other two courts finished just one game short of needing a tiebreak at 7-all. But at long last
Rishi Gundakaram and
Nathan Zou snuck away with an 8-6 Catlech win over their #3 Doubles rivals.
Ishaan Kannan and
Andrew Zabelo continued their excellence on Court 1, taking down Bowdoin's top doubles partnership 8-6.
Kyle McCandless and
Daniel Wen held pace with the Polar Bears' second doubles team, battling all the way to a 7-7 score and only falling in the breaker.
Victor Li claimed the Beavers' only singles decision, rebounding from split 6-3 sets to win the deciding third set by a 6-4 margin.
Head Coach
Matt Brisotti and the Beavers will be right back at it Friday morning as they host national No. 9 Johns Hopkins Unviersity at 10 a.m.
