Will Dembski Sets New Career Home Runs Record

PASADENA, Calif. – Will Dembski blasted his way into the Caltech Baseball history books Saturday afternoon, setting a new program record for career home runs with a solo dinger in the bottom of the seventh inning of the Beavers' second doubleheader game against SCIAC rival Chapman University.

Dembski had already connected for a base hit earlier, grounding a two-out single up the middle in the sixth inning of the early game. His historic long ball was the eighth home run off his bat this season, and the new benchmark is all the more notable due to the 2020 season being cut short and the 2021 season being canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This season, he leads the team in batting average, OPS, runs scored, home runs and total bases.

The previous record of 17 career home runs was set by Jim Hamrick over the 1983-86 seasons. Dembski currently holds the program records for home runs in a season by virtue of his 10 homers last year.

Other batting highlights in the doubleheader came from first-year Mark Hu, who tallied four hits in the two games including two doubles along with a run scored, followed closely by senior Jack Warren with three hits and one RBI.

Junior Leo Jenkins swung for two hits and two runs including a solo homer, and sophomore Jack Fishel made contact for a double and a triple, scoring twice in the doubleheader. Bobby Wang entered the second game as a pinch runner and made it home safely for the first run of his Caltech career.

Head Coach Kevin Whitehead and the Beavers will return to the North Field on Friday, Apr. 21 at 3 p.m. to host the Whittier College Poets.
