CLAREMONT, Calif. — The women's and men's track and field teams competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday where multiple athletes earned high finishes and achieved personal records. The meet was contested by athletes in Divisions I through III, among others.
Junior
Meg Robertson, who earned the women's hammer throw school record earlier this season, notched a sixth-place finish in Saturday's contest with a 39.80m throw. Robertson also competed in the discus throw, where she again placed sixth after throwing for 33.73m. The star would additionally compete in the shot put competition (9.73m, 14th).
Rucheng Pan also had a strong day in the field; the sophomore earned a top-20 finish in the shot put (9.35m, 15th out of 36), discus (23.75m, 18th out of 27), and hammer throw (31.17m, 19th out of 32).
Sophomore
Emily Hu crushed her existing personal best in the discus, throwing 30.85 meters on Saturday to earn 10th.
The throwing excellence continued on the men's side, as junior
Ezra Johnson achieved a pair of personal bests. Johnson earned a seventh-place finish among 26 athletes for his 36.56m throw in discus, while his 12.23m throw in shot put was good for twelfth among 25 throwers. He also competed in the hammer throw, where he placed 14th (32.70m).
On the track, sophomore
Josh Saha continued his impressive season with strong performances in two sprint events. The Rye, New York native earned a personal record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.03 seconds, good for 34th overall among 73 competitors. Saha also earned a strong time in the 400-meters, where he crossed the line at 51.28 to earn 17th place out of 37 athletes. The sprinter's time was just .23 seconds away from his personal best.
Right behind Saha in the 400m was sophomore
Roy Jiang, who placed 19th with a time of 51.81 seconds. Jiang also competed in the 200 meters, where he finished with a time of 23.48 for 47th.
The women's 800 meter competition was highlighted by a pair of strong performances from Beavers. In just her first collegiate 800-meter race, sophomore
Sophie Elam notched an impressive 2:31.63, good for 32nd among 56 athletes. Not far behind was first-year
Elisa Grillo, who ran a 2:32.84 for 38th.
In the men's race, sophomore
Jonathan Bennett would also take to the track for his first 800-meter contest of his collegiate career. The 1500-meter specialist recorded a solid 2:00.72 time, good for 45th among 88 runners.
First-years
Subham Sahoo (30.84m) and
David Castillo (30.41m) earned 15th and 16th place finishes among 24 athletes in the men's hammer throw.
In the women's 200-meter dash, first-year
Ashwitha Surabhi led the way for Caltech with a personal-best 27.86 seconds and a 39th place finish among 56 athletes.
Sophomore
Cason Shepard competed in the men's 100 meters, where he recorded a personal record 11.73 for 42nd. He earned 27th place in the 400m.
Next up for head coach
