REDLANDS, Calif. – A half-dozen Beavers represented Caltech Track & Field at Friday's Redlands Invitational, hosted by University of Redlands, showing improvement in their latest tune-up before the next SCIAC multi-dual meet.
The highest mark of the day came in the men's 1500 meters, as senior
Kyle Piper (Lafayette, Colo. / Centaurus) finished third overall with a time of 4:08.81, about a seven-second improvement over his performance at the Beavers' home SCIAC meet earlier this month.
Four Beavers competed in the 400-meter hurdles, with rookies
Tyler Gatewood (Corpus Christi, Texas / W.B. Ray) and Miigwan Tanner Wostrel (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet) running the event for the first time in their collegiate careers. Gatewood crossed the finish line after 58.50 seconds for 12th overall, just behind teammate
Cason Shepard (Vancouver, Wash. / Union) with a 58.37 time.
Josh Saha (Rye, N.Y. / Hackley School) clocked in at 1:00.30; Tanner-Wostrel finished at 1:02.61.
In the field, sophomore
Subham Sahoo (Moon Township, India / Moon Area) threw in the Men's Hammer event for a top distance of 36.23m (119' 5"), just shy of a new personal record.
